EKA Mobility and its group companies inaugurated six manufacturing facilities across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh on October 30, expanding an integrated commercial electric vehicle ecosystem. The new facilities cover vehicle assembly, engineering, seating, interiors and components. The announcement is about manufacturing infrastructure, not a fresh funding round or a count of vehicles already produced.
The six facilities include EKA's small commercial vehicle plant and its bus and truck plant in Pune, alongside VDL Pinnacle Engineering, Instor India and Pinnacle Seating and Interiors facilities. A Pinnacle Interiors plant in Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh, completes the set. Together, the sites link vehicle production with the engineering and component businesses that support it, according to CNBC-TV18 and ETAuto.
The group says its wider ecosystem now comprises 11 manufacturing facilities spread across 120 acres, with annual capacity for more than 40,000 electric vehicles. That is company-reported capacity across the ecosystem, not annual sales, delivered vehicles or an independently measured utilisation rate. EKA's official website confirms that its product range spans electric buses, trucks and small commercial vehicles.
The opening also sits within a longer technology push. In a media interaction reported by HT Auto, chairman Sudhir Mehta said EKA plans to invest about Rs 1,000 crore in research and development over the next five years. That is a forward-looking plan, separate from this week's plant inauguration. In a BusinessLine interview, he said bus deployments depend on depot readiness and discussed charging availability and financing as practical constraints on commercial EV adoption.
FundForge Insight: commercial EV scale is a systems problem. Assembly capacity helps, but suppliers, depot infrastructure, financing and reliable after-sales service determine whether a larger footprint becomes a productive business. The next useful signals are plant utilisation, delivered vehicles and fleet performance. Announced capacity and future investment plans should not be read as completed production or guaranteed revenue.
