MO Alts, the private equity arm of Motilal Oswal Financial Services, has appointed Padmanabh Sinha as managing director and chief executive officer, VCCircle reported. Sinha was previously executive director and chief investment officer at the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund, the quasi-sovereign fund anchored by the Indian government.

Sinha brings nearly 30 years of investing and leadership experience across India and global markets, spanning sovereign funds, corporations and institutions. He succeeds MO Alts founder Vishal Tulsyan, who becomes executive chairman and will also help shape strategy at the parent group, according to a company press note.

The changes run wider than one office. Motilal Oswal also said Ajay Menon, managing director of its wealth management (retail broking) business, and Ashish Shankar, head of its private wealth business, will step down from their roles to jointly pursue a startup venture outside the group.

Moving a CIO from a sovereign-style infrastructure fund to run a private equity platform shows how interchangeable the top talent between the two worlds has become. And the Menon-Shankar exit adds a second, familiar story: senior financial-services leaders leaving to build something of their own.

FundForge Insight: founder-to-professional-CEO transitions are the maturity test for Indian financial services firms. Tulsyan staying on as executive chairman keeps founder continuity while Sinha brings institutional-scale fundraising and deployment experience from NIIF - a profile built for raising larger pools of long-horizon capital. Watch the first fund vintage under the new leadership for the real verdict. Source: VCCircle (November 3, 2026).
